For the government poverty and unemployment are considered as collateral damage

The President of the Republic talks about an “economic miracle” in Cyprus, but other than that the government isn’t celebrating.
The Minister of Finance at every opportunity is advertising the “therapies” that have been imposed on Cyprus (such as for example, the haircut on bank deposits), but again the government isn’t celebrating.
Even when the government and ruling forces say that they are not, in reality they are celebrating, as the Deputy Government Spokesman did today, who is insisting that unemployment has fallen and that Cyprus has exited from the deadlocks. Unemployment has not decreased; there is a subtle seasonal correction.
As far as the government and ruling forces are concerned, the tens of thousands of unemployed, poor and Cypriots who are emigrating are not included among the dead ends. They are considered as collateral damage.
