Government mess of declarations and contradictions

Statement by Georgos Loucaides, AKEL Press Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 21st October 2015, Nicosia

econ on saleThe popular and growing reaction against the government’s neoliberal absurdity and ideological obsessions to sell off the profitable Semi-governmental organizations and their surrender to powerful private interests, has led the leadership and government of DISY party to a mess of declarations and ongoing contradictions.

More specifically, one day the Minister of Finance declared in the House of Representatives that there is no question of privatizing the Cyprus Electricity Authority EAC or any other organization apart the Cyprus Telecommunication Authority CYTA. The very next day, however, the Minister of Commerce presented a study with prefabricated results aiming at the further promotion of the government’s machinations to privatize the EAC.

Under the weight of growing reactions and the isolation in which it has found itself, it is obvious that the government and ruling forces are either totally confused, or that they believe that they can fool society, the political forces and involved agencies as to their anti-social machinations and scheming.

In any case, AKEL believes that the Anastasiades- DISY government this time will fail to promote its machinations to sell off the profitable Semi-governmental organizations and that the interests of consumers, taxpayers, workers and the economy in general and not the interests of certain big private interests will ultimately prevail.
