This government will go down in history as the most untrustworthy

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 3rd February 2016, Nicosia

Proedriko In his interview last night to “Sigma” TV station, as expected, President Anastasiades expressed the same political narrative that we hear daily from the leadership and Government of the DISY party.

He again presented the open secret, namely that his government will go down in history as the most untrustworthy, showering praise on itself that he has made our country more credible than ever.

Deleting his Minister’s constant tributes of privatizations, he questioned the multitude of the Government’s broken promises claiming, if it is ever possible, that he has even ensured the non-privatisation of the Semi-state organizations of the Cyprus Electricity Authority EAC and the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority CYTA.

He tried once again to paint a completely different picture of the Cypriot economy’s situation, incapable of realizing that this stand provokes people’s feelings, particularly those who are suffering most.

Without comprehending that our people’s subjugation, humiliation and impoverishment may on the one hand be a necessary precondition for the government’s policies to be adored by the Troika and the rating agencies, but this does not in any way make them beneficial for our people.

As expected and in contrast to all the unprecedented conditions people are experiencing, the President did not identify any problems in the Government’s relations with institutions. He apparently hasn’t realized that his “best of the excellent” appointees ended up being dismissed from their official posts for the first time ever in the history of the Republic, nor that has his government, due to its own responsibility, has clashed openly with just about all independent officials.

We do not of course anticipate an admission that the authoritarianism and arbitrariness of the government and ruling forces, who portray themselves as wanting as little state intervention as possible, aims at at putting whatever still remains under public and state ownership under DISY control and that everyone without exception must comply with the government’s dictates.
