Government, DISY and DIKO continuing to act together within the framework of the Memorandum submission

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 13th November 2015, Nicosia

econ TroikaThe machinations and wheeling and dealing of the governing DISY Rally party, the Democratic Party DIKO and the Troika, which lasted until the belated start of yesterday’s plenary of the House of Representatives, led to the approval by a majority of the legislation paving the way for a new haircut, this time on immovable property to the detriment of small debtors/borrowers and their guarantors.

Despite all the power given to them by the legislation for foreclosures and on insolvency, despite the plenty of time they had to proceed to conclude fair restructuring plans for small borrowers, the banks preferred waiting for the legislation for the sale of loans and “packetization” that will follow.

To put it very simply, the banks basically chose, together with the government, the DISY and DIKO parties to keep the debtors trapped and defenseless without protection and to hand them over to the anonymous and faceless vulture funds, that are experts in carrying out the “dirty” work. The banks will receive as a reward the drawing of liquidity and capital immediately and cumulatively.

The Government of Anastasiades, DISY and DIKO are unfortunately continuing to act together within the framework of the submission to the Memorandum and the further socialization of the losses of the banks.

As the leaderships of the two parties did from the very beginning of the banking crisis, on the one hand they remain silent and cover up the banker’s responsibilities for the destruction of the Cyprus economy. On the other hand, they continue to impose jointly punitive measures against those who have no responsibility whatsoever for the robbery committed by the banks and the destruction of the economy, but who on the contrary were, and remain, its principal victims and therefore the most vulnerable groups in society.

Clearly DISY and DIKO are united by their common philosophy and commitment to the interests of big private interests and the privileged few; a commitment for the sake of which they are constantly sacrificing the majority of the people, namely those not at all or less privileged, for the majority of whom now the danger of the loss of the family home or small business premise is increasing.
