Good preparation, correct planning and a comprehensive plan ensuring the health and safety of pupils and teachers is needed

Statement by the Head of the Education Affairs Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL Christos Christophides

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 6th May 2020, Nicosia

With the decision of the Government and consequently the assumption of responsibility by the government, schools will open on 21st May. What needs to be done now is what has been missing from the public education system in the approximately 2 months of the crisis. That is to say, good preparation, correct planning, and a comprehensive plan that first and foremost ensures the health and safety of our school pupils and teachers, as well as of course of the learning result.

It is clear that at the moment there are many questions, concerns and numerous issues that need to be clarified. We hope that the Ministry of Education will provide the required answers as soon as possible. In the period ahead of us, we need dialogue and cooperation with all those involved in education in order to achieve the best possible result. We want to believe that the lack of overall planning, the disorganization and the omissions that have been observed since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in our education system will be a thing of the past.

There are two weeks left until the opening of the schools. This time must not be wasted but should be used effectively within the framework of distance learning.
