The need for change in the governance of the country and getting rid of the right-wing government was stressed by the AKEL Larnaca District organisation meeting of cadres and members, which took place last Friday, February 11.
The key political analysis was made by the Party’s Parliamentary Representative, Giorgos Loukaides, who spoke about the situation surrounding the Cyprus problem and the domestic front, denouncing the policy of Nicos Anastasiades and the ruling Democratic Rally party for the deadlocks that have been created.
In her own intervention, the AKEL Larnaca District Secretary, Chrystalla Antoniou, pointed out that hope for a better tomorrow can only be given by a strong, well-organised and tightly-knit AKEL.
“The Right and extreme right are reviving in our district too and are clearly showing their intentions. Apart from all that has already been undermined, the dangers for our people and country on all fronts: on socio-economic issues, the Cyprus problem, corruption and a host of others, are not only real, but are pushing Cypriot society towards dangerous paths, reminiscent of past eras, written in black letters in the history of our country,” said Chr. Antoniou, making a special reference to the growth of the far-right.
C.Antoniou subsequently analysed the terrible problems that the Anastasiades-DISY government has created with a large section of Cypriot society in conditions of poverty, together with the terrible housing problem and price hikes, which have all created conditions of deprivation and stress for thousands of families.
Furthermore, the AKEL Larnaca District Secretary Chrystalla Antoniou referred to the areas of Health, Education and social policy, describing a picture of growing problems as the government ruling forces continue to pursue their neoliberal policies.
With regards the Cyprus problem, C. Antoniou stressed that the inconsistent and erratic policy followed by Nicos Anastasiades and DISY is extremely dangerous with the danger of permanent partition visible.
“The issues I have referred to are just some of the problems that plague our people and country on a daily basis. And as loudly and strongly as we can, we say too and hear the message being conveyed by a large section of our people: “Enough is enough! These people have to go,” AKEL Larnaca District Secretary noted, who called on Party members to mobilise the people and play a leading role among the grassroots of society.
The Party Base Organisations that covered 100% of the fundraising target in 2021 were awarded at the meeting.
