Dijsselbloem said what Cypriot people already knew but the government still denies
Written statement by Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Press Spokesperson

Once again, the Anastasiades Government and governing DISY party are refusing to admit the truth about the haircut on bank deposits, resorting to distortions and avoiding the issue, whilst contradicting themselves.
Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem said what everyone in Cyprus knows very well but the government and ruling forces insist on keeping as hidden pride. That is to say, that the President of the Republic certainly knew from the 4th March 2013 about the haircut on bank deposits and that unfortunately he did not inform anyone about it – at least, not the political leadership, because in fact certain circles were indeed informed as a privileged group so that they could take their money out of Cyprus beforehand. Besides, this is what Mr. Anastasiades implicitly testified also to the investigation committee for the economy, when in his written statement he admitted that he accepted the “bail-in” and was looking for alternative ways of finding 5.8 billion Euros. This is also testified by the preparation of the bill several days before the Eurogroup meeting and decision, for a single lump contribution on deposits, just as the destructive 16th March agreement had in the end envisaged.
We agree on one thing with the President of the DISY party Mr. Averof Neophytou – that we should all focus on contributing to the economy’s recovery.
However, this will only be done if a basic requirement is met. That is to say, if there is an admission of the truth about the causes that led to the catastrophe, since only then can we address them effectively. We regret to note that even today with his statements, Mr. Neophytou anything but acts in this way. On the contrary, he appears to relieve fully the Troika and Mr. Dijsselbloem of its responsibilities for the destructive “treatment” it imposed on Cyprus, by dissolving in just one night the banking sector and financial model of our country.
Similarly, the government and ruling forces are doing the same to this today regarding those who through their actions and omissions caused the banking crime.
Instead, it suits them to continue to criminalize – as responsible for the catastrophe – working people’s wages and salaries, pensions and social benefits, the profitable Semi-governmental organizations and the citizens as greedy. Primarily of course, they continue to attempt to blame the Left, which is the only force that warned about the banking crime that was in progress when they covered and protected the bankers and Mr Orphanides, the former Governor of the Cyprus Central Bank.
