The way for the destruction of Akamas has been paved

AKEL opposes yesterday’s decision of the Ministerial Council on the Akamas area, given that it annuls the work of all previous years, but of the previous government as well, which after many long discussions and efforts managed to protect the unique eco-system of Akamas, whilst also satisfying simultaneously to a great extent all involved agencies.

The current government, with its well-known authoritarianism and arrogance that distinguishes it, is paving the way for the destruction of Akamas. The government’s goal is to serve a handful of large private interests at the expense of the protection of this unique eco-system.

As AKEL, we will continue our struggle, both within Cyprus, as well as through the activity of our MEPs in the European Parliament to prevent the government’s plans, which will inexorably lead to the disappearance of these natural heritage areas.
