Deep sadness over the death of Fanis Christodoulou

 

Statement by the Central Committee of AKEL

6TH February 2020, Nicosia

The Central Committee of AKEL with deep sadness announces the passing away of comrade Fanis Christodoulou, who has been a leading cadre of AKEL for decades.

Fanis Christodoulou was born on 6TH February 1953. His engagement in the struggle began during his studies in Bulgaria, where he studied at the Varna Institute of International Tourism and subsequently at the Sofia Academy of Social Sciences. He was very active in the student movement in Varna and Sofia where he served as a member of the Sofia Foreign Students Coordinating Committee.

In 1971 he became a member of AKEL, which he served faithfully and with all his strength until the very end.

Fanis Christodoulou served as AKEL Larnaca District Secretary from 1989 to 2005, AKEL Central Organisational Secretary from 2006 to 2008, and AKEL Nicosia-Kyrenia District Secretary from 2008 to 2010. He was a member of the Political Bureau of AKEL from 1995 until 2013 and a member of the Council of the ‘Prometheus’ Research Institute from 2012 to 2016.

He was a member of the Central Control Commission of AKEL since 2015, General Secretary of the Cyprus Peace Council since 2017 and President of the Athletic Association ‘Anagenisis’ of Ayi Yianni, Larnaca.

The C.C. of AKEL expresses its deep condolences to his wife Emilia Michailova, his daughters Polina and Georgia and his relatives.

The funeral of the late Fanis Christodoulou will be held tomorrow Friday, 7th February 3 p.m. at the Apostolos Loukas Church in Aradippou. The family will receive condolences from 14:00.

The funeral eulogy will be delivered by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou.

Instead of wreaths, contributions will be made to the ‘Mana’ Club and the Solidarity Association for Support.
