Citizens are waiting for answers about the President’s trip to the Seychelles

Statement by AKEL Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loucaides

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 23rd May 2020, Nicosia

Three days have passed and the President of the Republic hasn’t felt any need whatsoever to reply to the serious questions that arise from the confirmation of his family trip to the Seychelles in August 2015.

Once again, he seems to have chosen to keep silent and evade scrutiny, as he did with the revelations about his second trip to Seychelles, when months later he admitted that he traveled as a family for free with his Saudi friend’s luxury jet, who was granted a Cypriot passport.

We once again pose the following questions to Mr. Anastasiades:

– Why did the President’s representatives deny the trip to the Seychelles in August 2015 when a relevant question was put in the Parliamentary Audit Committee?

– Why were only the overseas allowances of the Presidential guard covered and not the air tickets and the accommodation in a hotel, just as was the case in August 2018?

– Did he or did he not travel this time travel as a family for free to Seychelles with the jet of his Saudi Sheikh friend and if so why did he diligently hide it all this time?
