Throughout his life, Patrikios Pavlou has waged struggles for democracy, freedom, his homeland, and social progress, declared Haris Polycarpou, member of the Political Bureau of AKEL, at the event organized by the Pancyprian Association of Democratic Resistance Fighters on the occasion of 7 December, Democratic Resistance Day.
After congratulating the Association on its initiative, Haris Polycarpou described Patrikios Pavlou as “a consistent Marxist fighter, genuine and selfless, a man of ideals in every sense of the word, devoted to the principles of democracy, social justice, solidarity and freedom.
Patrikios Pavlou, added H. Polycarpou, is “A tireless fighter for justice in Cyprus, a consistent supporter of the need for a peaceful and fair solution to the Cyprus problem for all Cypriots, based on the resolutions of the United Nations.”
The honoree, Patrikios Pavlou, in his response said: “The honor bestowed upon me today belongs to all the Democratic Resistance fighters who, on that fateful day of 15 July 1974, resisted with courage and bravery, and many gave their lives to protect democracy and the constitutional order, as well as the honor and dignity of their homeland.”
Regarding the attempts to revise history, Patrikios Pavlou stressed the following: “It is with anger and indignation that we have recently witnessed the efforts of certain forces to turn logic on its head and shamelessly rewrite, or rather falsify, history.”
