AKEL Welcomes the Upcoming Visit of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Cyprus

AKEL welcomes the upcoming visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to Cyprus, as part of his Good Offices mission regarding the Cyprus problem. It is our wish and hope that the UN Secretary-General’s visit will give an impetus to the effort to break the current dangerous deadlock surrounding the Cyprus problem, paving the way for the resumption of negotiations on the agreed basis and within the agreed framework, to end the occupation and reunite our homeland and people.
AKEL reiterates on this occasion that it is of critical importance to safeguard the entire negotiation acquis and the Guterres Framework, on the basis of which negotiations must resume from the point at which they were suspended in 2017 regarding the remaining issues . A solution to the Cyprus problem based on principles is the one that can free our homeland from the occupation and division and lead our people towards a future of peace and lasting security.
