AKEL welcomes the release of the three Cuban heroes by the US government

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th December 2014, Nicosia

cuban 5 interAKEL welcomes the release of the three Cuban heroes by the US government after a mutual agreement between the Cuban President Raul Castro and US President Obama. After many years of illegal detention in the US, the Cuban heroes and their families can enjoy their freedom. The international solidarity movement that consistently and militancy promoted the demand and struggled for their release, has been victorious.

Nothing separates the Cuban people and the American people. The restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries must contribute towards the immediate lifting of the US embargo against Cuba, which constitutes a violation of International Law. At the same time, the US government must end its interventions against the right of the Cuban people to determine themselves their own model of development.

AKEL reaffirms its solidarity with the Cuban people and the values of the Cuban Revolution, for equality, prosperity, peace and socialism.
