AKEL on the side of the Palestinian people to end the occupation

AKEL on Land Day

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 30th March 2021, Nicosia

Before eyes of the international community, Israel has continued to occupy Palestinian territory since 1967, expelling its lawful inhabitants from their land and property, demolishing their homes and expanding illegal settlements. The United States tolerates and supports the ongoing violations of international law by the State of Israel. The recognition of Jerusalem as the indivisible capital of Israel, the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and the illegal settlements are all US moves that are destroying the possibilities of resolving the Palestinian issue.

The occupation today is causing double suffering to the Palestinian people who are also suffering from the pandemic like all peoples, but in addition the occupying power deprives them of free access to vaccines.

Today, 30th March, as the Palestinian people wherever they may be are honoring “Land Day” – a day established in honor of all those who fought and sacrificed their lives that day in 1976, resisting the illegal seizure of their land by Israeli authorities and discriminations against the Arab citizens of Israel, AKEL reaffirms its full solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people.

We join our voices in demanding an end to the Israeli occupation, for the termination of the 14-year siege of Gaza, for the release of political prisoners and for the respect for the human rights of the Palestinian people. We urge the international community and the EU to put an end to Israel’s impunity and the policy of equal distancing. Together with the Palestinian people, we demand the self-evident: the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the borders of 4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
