AKEL on the passing away of the Turkish Cypriot trade unionist Mehmet Seyis

AKEL with grief and sorrow bids farewell to the Turkish Cypriot trade unionist Mehmet Seyis, who passed away today. Mehmet Seyis was a pioneering leader of the trade union movement in Cyprus and a militant fighter for the rapprochement of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots and the reunification of our island and people.
Mehmet Seyis was nurtured in the struggles for the organization and rights of the workers of Cyprus and as General Secretary and President of the Turkish Cypriot Revolutionary Workers Trade Union Federation (DEV-İŞ) he worked tirelessly for the unity and joint action of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot trade unions, for the unity of the Cypriot working class. With as his starting point, Mehmet Seyis worked and struggled for the vision of an independent and united Cyprus, the homeland of all its children.
AKEL bids farewell to Mehmet Seyis with gratitude for his contribution to the working class and the people of Cyprus, but also with the promise that will continue the struggle for freedom, reunification and peace. We express our sincere condolences to the family of Mehmet Seyis and to his comrades in DEV-İŞ.
