AKEL on the passing away of Ilker Kilic, historic militant of CTP
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4th October 2019, Nicosia
AKEL conveys its sincere condolences on the passing away of Ilker Kilic to his family, friends and comrades in the Republican Turkish Party (CTP).
Kilic was a founding member of the CTP and fought all his life at the forefront of the progressive struggles for the reunification of Cyprus and its people. He suffered imprisonment and persecution for his ideas and activity, both in occupied Cyprus as well as in Turkey. He was a shining symbol of a militant of the Turkish Cypriot Left and an active member of the movement for the rapprochement of the two communities, especially in Britain, where he has lived since 1973. He was a close friend of AKEL, and last year took the lead in the efforts to establish the Bi-Communist Initiative.
AKEL will attend tomorrow’s funeral of Ilker Kilic which will be held in occupied Nicosia.
