AKEL on Ecologist Party-Citizens Platform’s decision to back DIKO leader N.Papadopoulos as presidential candidate
Statement by Yiorgos Loucaides, Parliamentary Spokesperson of AKEL-Left-New Forces

The choice of the relevant leading bodies of the Ecologists and Citizens Platform to back Mr. Papadopoulos’ candidacy is fully respected. Naturally, however, their choice is expected to be judged by citizens themselves, who are watching Mr. Papadopoulos making endless pledges with a lot of ease in various directions, on the path, that is, that Mr. Anastasiades charted.
Citizens therefore quite rightly question how much credibility do the commitments made by Mr. Papadopoulos to the Ecologists have in relation to environmental and economic issues, when, as a rule, over the years, their positions were in direct conflict.
Likewise, citizens wonder how trustworthy are Mr. Papadopoulos’ pledges on the Cyprus problem, when he refuses to refer to the strategic goal of a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution on the Cyprus problem, and when there are so many blatant contradictions between the parties that back him.
