AKEL on Armenian Genocide 100th Anniversary

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 24th April 2015

armenia This year 100 years will have passed since the beginning of the Armenian genocide that was organized by the Young Turks regime in the final years of the Ottoman Empire. AKEL pays homage to the Armenian people who suffered unimaginable pain, mass executions, uprooting and the violation of human rights.

The Armenian genocide is a historical painful reminder of what people driven by hatred and nationalism are able to commit in order to serve narrow political interests of ruling classes.

The recognition by Turkey first and foremost, as well as the entire international community, of the genocide and its consequences, represents a long-standing principled position of AKEL, f or the sake of historical truth, human rights and education of the peoples.

And let it be at the same time a constant call: namely that the generations to come will be safe not only when genocides cease to exist, but when their causes currently provoking wars and violations of International Law cease to exist.
