AKEL MP A.Damianou ultimatum to the authorities for the submission of the Akamas Plan expires

9 June 2022, ‘Astra’ radio

The ultimatum given by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee, AKEL MP Aristos Damianou, to the relevant agencies to respond whether they refuse to table the Akamas Plan in Parliament has expired.

Speaking to this morning edition of ‘Astra’ radio, Aristos Damianou made it clear that no one has the right to refuse parliamentary scrutiny. He stressed that according to the information they have, the plan tends to alter the character of Akamas to serve, A.Damianou said, private and political interests. As an indication, he said that 28 farms are envisaged in the government’s plan.

The AKEL MP added that it was understandable that the properties belonging to local residents lost their value because Akamas had to be protected, stressing however that there must be a balance and compensatory measures should be provided. As he said, the solution is not to ‘build’ on Akamas.
