AKEL in solidarity with Hambis Tsangaris to protect the Printmaking Museum in Plataniskia

17 November 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

A delegation of AKEL visited the Printmaking Museum in Plataniskia today to express the Party’s support for Cyprus’ leading engraver/printmaker, Hambis Tsangaris, who once is up against the state’s indifference to the state of the Museum’s building.

Hambis Tsangaris announced the suspension of the Museum’s operation – housed in a Turkish Cypriot house in the local community of Plataniskia – in reaction to the authorities’ indifference to protect the Museum from water ingress on the floor and the humidity that now threatens the precious archive which includes masterpieces of the world’s printmaking art.

The AKEL delegation – consisting of the Party’s Spokesperson and MP Giorgos Koukoumas, the Head of Culture Affairs of the Party, Kostas Kosta and the member of the AKEL Limassol District Secretariat, Giorgos Alexandrou – expressed their full support towards Hambis Tsangaris and assured that they will continue their intense efforts at all levels in order to find an immediate solution.

AKEL demands that all necessary measures be taken to protect the building and the precious cultural work it houses and to enable the Museum, which is a cultural treasure for Cyprus, to reopen.
