AKEL GS message to Raul Castro on the 58th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

On the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou send the following letter of congratulations to the President of the Republic of Cuba and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba comrade Raul Castro.
“Dear comrade Raul,
On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL and myself, I express the warmest militant greetings to the people, the Communist Party and the Cuban government on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Victory of the Revolution. The overthrow of the US puppet Batista dictatorship and the beginning of the construction of socialism in Cuba represents a shining milestone in modern world history and an enduring inspiration to the struggling peoples of the world.
This year is the first anniversary of the Revolution without the physical presence of Fidel. The death of Fidel will not only not mean the end of the Revolution as the imperialist centres are propagating, but on the contrary it has become an opportunity for all humanity to witness the deep love of the Cuban people towards Fidel, but – above all – to also see how deeply the ideals of socialism, patriotic dignity and internationalism are rooted in the Cuban people’s consciousness. The Cuban Revolution is a genuine revolution of the people, for the people and as such it has the power to withstand and move forward.
The achievements of Cuba in social welfare, science, education, health, sports and culture, which indeed took place in conditions of a blockade and constant subversion by the US are living proof of the possibilities and prospects of the path of socialist development. At the same time, the international solidarity Cuba is rendering to the suffering peoples of Africa, Latin America and Middle East demonstrates that although Cuba has no economic surpluses it does have an abundance of humanism and selflessness. The people of Cyprus has always had the unreserved political, diplomatic and moral support of Cuba in the struggle for the defense of the sovereignty, independence and unity of our country. We are sure that this consistent solidarity based on principles towards Cyprus will also continue in the current critical phase Cyprus is passing through.
Dear comrade Raul,
We know that the US have been forced to change tactics towards Cuba, but they continue to have the overthrow the Revolution as their strategic goal. We also know the difficulties and challenges Cuba faces in the current international economic conditions. AKEL expresses its trust in the Communist Party of Cuba for the defense of the Revolution and the guidance of socialist construction in the country. We express the determination of the militants and members of AKEL to continue to join their forces with those of the international solidarity movement towards Cuba, aiming at ending the US blockade against your country, closing down the US base of Guantanamo and the return of the territory to Cuba, as well as the defence of the Revolution from its various attempts to undermine it.
