AKEL disagrees with the government’s decision to send a military contingent to the military parades that were going take place in Greece

General Secretary of AKEL A.Kyprianou replies to journalist’s questions

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 26th March 2021, Nicosia

“We have discussed – permit me not to say what we discussed in public – issues that we will discuss with the competent Ministers. We handled some of the issues in the past too in consultation with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Justice.

I know that I am not the President of the Republic and that I don’t decide such issues. For that reason, the leader of EDEK party Mr. Sizopoulos would do well to address the President of the Republic himself. I have an opinion and expressed it at the meeting and to be honest I had the impression that everyone who took part in the National Council meetings can reveal in public precisely what he/she says.

I have said that I disagree and did disagree with the government’s decision to send a military contingent to the military parades that were going take place in Greece. We are two separate states and especially on the eve of the departure of political parties to the informal five-meeting at Geneva, I consider that we should have stuck to this position”
