AKEL denounces the malicious actions by nationalist ultra-right elements defacing a mosque

The government must act decisively to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 26th March 2021, Nicosia

Vandalism perpetrated against a mosque in the Diocese of Limassol is an undeniably condemnable act that shames the country. AKEL urges on the government to act decisively to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. We point out that similar malicious actions in places of religious worship have been committed in the recent past without any decisive crackdown on the perpetrators.

AKEL stresses that the nationalist ultra-right elements that are carrying out such actions must be isolated from society and the state. The Cypriot people know from their own bitter experience that, historically, such actions and mentalities have been exploited to promote plans that have led to bloodshed and partitioned our homeland.
