AKEL denounces the Israeli armed force’s attacks on Palestinians in Jerusalem

AKEL denounces in the strongest possible terms the attacks launched by the Israeli armed forces against the Palestinians in and around Al Aqsa, in Jerusalem. According to information, today alone more than 200 Palestinians have already been injured. The bloody attacks of the Israeli forces against the Palestinians have been continuing and intensifying for days with bans on attending the holy places both for Christians during Easter and for Muslims during the month of Ramadan.
At the same time, the attacks by settlers on Palestinians are growing in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of East Jerusalem aiming at ousting them and occupying their homes. The ultimate goal is to turn Jerusalem into a purely Jewish city, in violation of international law and the resolutions of the United Nations.
The international community has a duty to protect the Palestinian people in the face of an escalating humanitarian and political crisis and to intervene immediately.
AKEL expresses its full solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people and joins its voice with the demand for an immediate end to the Israeli occupation and colonalisation, for the immediate recognition of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as the capital.
