AKEL denounces police attack on Greek protesters
AKEL denounces the violent attack by the Greek police on today’s mobilisation organised in Athens by workers trade unions demanding measures to tackle unemployment. Strong security forces threw tear gas and beat up demonstrators, among them the European Member of Parliament of the Communist Party of Greece Bambis Angourakis.
AKEL expresses its solidarity to the communists of Greece and the class-based trade union movement of the country which is struggling against the anti-worker barbarity and authoritarian policies of repression. The prohibition of workers mobilisations and struggles, as well as the criminalisation of trade union activity has regretfully become for the ruling classes of the entire EU countries an indispensable tool for the implementation of the policies of austerity, privatisations and impoverishment of the European peoples.
