AKEL denounces attack in the centre of Istanbul

AKEL denounces the new bloody terrorist attack in the historic centre of Istanbul, which has killed eleven people and wounded fifteen others. We express our sorrow and sympathy to the families of the victims.

Everything points to this new attack too being the work of the murderous “Islamic State”, which is spreading death in Turkish cities as well. The people of Turkey are paying the price of the consequences of the Turkish government’s adventurist policies in Syria and the multifaceted support that was given by Ankara towards the “IS” organization and jihadists. At the same time, the confrontational and destructive policy of the Erdogan government towards the Kurds further inflames the situation. The foreign and domestic policy of the Turkish government reproduces the violence and instability within the country, but also throughout the whole of our neighborhood.

AKEL expresses its militant solidarity with the progressive forces in Turkey who are struggling for democracy, freedom and human rights, as well as for a peaceful and just solution to the multitude of Turkey’s unresolved problems with its neighbors.
