AKEL-CTP support Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation
Statements by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A.Kyprianou after the meeting with a delegation from the Turkish Cypriot “Republican Turkish Party” (CTP)
A joint declaration of the two parties will be issued before the Geneva five-party meeting
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 16th March 2021, Nicosia
First of all, I would like to thank my friend Tufan (leader of CTP) for the very productive discussion we had, as well as the other friends from the CTP delegation. AKEL and CTP are two parties which were always adhering more or less to the same vision for Cyprus and with regards the solution of the Cyprus problem. Regardless of any disagreements and differences that exist between us on separate issues, we are two parties that have been struggling for many years to contribute towards the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem in a way that will reunite Cyprus and the Cypriot people.
Today we discussed the situation as it, to be precise, has evolved on the basis of the latest developments and in view of the five-party informal conference in Geneva. We have decided to work together in the effort to contribute towards the resumption of substantive negotiations aiming at the solution of the Cyprus problem in line with the agreed framework. That is to say, on the basis of Bi-zonal, Bicommunal Federation with political equality, as described in the relevant Resolutions of the UN.
We have also agreed that in the coming days the two parties will issue a joint declaration in view of the upcoming informal five-party conference that will include our parties’ comprehensive views on the content that the solution must have and the perspective that we should give to our common homeland.
We, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, are children of the same Motherland, as well as the Maronites, Armenians and Latins. We will try to create such conditions that will allow us to reunite it so that we will live in peace in our common homeland.
