AKEL congratulates HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) for the results of the elections in Turkey

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou today send the following letter of congratulating to the Co-President of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas on the election results in Turkey:

“Please accept on behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL, our warm congratulations on the result achieved by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the parliamentary elections in Turkey. The success of your Party to clearly surpass the absurd election threshold for entering the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the election of 80 deputies, reflect positively in the struggle of the Kurds for respect, justice and the end of the oppression to which they are subject. It also reflects positively in the struggle of the oppressed of Turkey, for safeguarding basic freedoms and rights of both the working people and the people of the country.

We look forward to the further strengthening the relations between our parties and to the reinforcement of our cooperation. The main goal of AKEL is the peaceful solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of International Law, in order to create further preconditions for peace and security throughout our region. Similarly, for AKEL the practical respect of national and cultural peculiarities, the history and struggles of peoples and communities and international solidarity are basic tools for the resolution of conflicts.”
