Address by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A. Kyprianou to the big concert “The Future unites us”

“Eleftheria” Tassos Papadopoulos Stadium, Nicosia

AKEL C.C Press Office, 15th January 2018, Nicosia

We have gathered here tonight in this mass gathering that is sending out one clear message: nothing can stop the future!

The singers Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Lavrentis Macheritsas, Miltos Paschalides, Christos Theveos, Yiota Nega, Rita Antonopoulou, Voula Konstantinou and Nicolas Filatas will accompany the victorious course that begun months ago. We thank them warmly for their presence here this evening.

At the height of the election campaign one thing is certain: that Stavros Malas has rightly earned the prominent place in everyone’s consciousness. Everyone without exception admits that Stavros Malas is an honest, trustworthy, clean and sincere person; that Stavros Malas is the only one we can put our trust in; that he is the one who can take Cyprus forward.

We have been waging a difficult battle for months now; a battle against false pledges and against clientilism, cronyism and interwoven interests; a battle to win over the people’s hearts and minds of the people; a battle against candidates who give the impression that they don’t want to win the elections, but to buy them.

We want to win the elections and we shall win them because we address the consciousness of every Cypriot!

We call on every Cypriot to put his hand on his/her heart, to judge and vote; to vote for Cyprus and the future that unites us.

A possible re-election of Mr. Anastasiades will destroy what has been left standing over this five-year period. Mr. Anastasiades has given what he has. Our country has to be saved from the decline that the Anastasiades-DISY Government has plunged it into.

It certainly will not be saved by Mr. Nicholas Papadopoulos: a politician with dangerous positions on the Cyprus problem. A politician who supported Mr. Anastasiades and DISY to implement their policy and now presents himself as the opposing pole. Privatizations, foreclosures, insolvency, bank profits and much more. There isn’t a single anti-social bill that did not pass in the House of Representatives without his own vote. Nicolas Papadopoulos, with his anti-social policies and regressions, is not ready to govern.

Our country needs a person who will bring real change; a person who will work hard to rid us of the unbelievable interwoven interests and deep corruption; a person who will stand up to the terror logic arguing that “whoever is not with us is against us”. He will open up new paths in the economy and chart new policies for young people. He will open the doors for our young scientists to return to their country and create, and who will support those in need and build the Cyprus of the future: a peaceful, reunited and prosperous Cyprus!

The country needs Stavros Mala. Stavros Malas expresses the majority of the people and rallies the best at his side. Stavros unites and doesn’t divide. He proposes, he doesn’t engage in demagogy. He knows what he wants, where he is going with security and certainty.

Stavros Malas is not the candidate of the country’s establishment. He is not the person who big interests and the establishment want as their candidate. He is not the person of the big law firms who certain circles and forces want so as to serve their interests.

Stavros Malas is the hope of the majority of the people. He is the person who every progressive person entrust their hopes. He is the one who knows the needs of the ordinary working person and the one who expresses the expectations of those who are struggling daily in life; those who have dreams about this homeland, those who want real change.

He is the one who can lead us to the Cyprus of the future! To the Cyprus of meritocracy, growth, peace, progress and prosperity!

This future unites us, so tomorrow we shall work with all our strength.

We shall win this tomorrow!

Together with Stavros Mala!

Our goal is to unite and not to divide; to put forth proposals and not indulge in demagogy; to convince the people of our positions
