Herzog’s visit is a provocation

AKEL supports the protest being organised by the Cyprus Peace Council and other anti-war organisations in response to the visit of the President of Israel to Cyprus, on the invitation of President Christodoulides. It calls for a mass turnout on Thursday, 10 September 2026, 18:30 p.m., outside the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

At a time when a number of countries around the world are condemning Israel’s criminal policies, President Christodoulides’ stance provides political cover for the Israeli leadership. The policy of Israel’s far-right leadership towards the Palestinian people must be denounced, given that the occupation, the displacement and slaughter of civilians cannot be tolerated.

Cyprus, which is experiencing Turkish occupation and bases its struggle on international law, must uphold the same principles for all peoples. This is in our country’s best interests.
