AKEL marks International Youth Day
11 August 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
To mark 12 August, International Youth Day, AKEL extends a warm and militant greeting to the youth of Cyprus. We honour the young generation of our country, their aspirations and dreams for a society of justice, peace and with prospects.
At a time when young men and women are facing a housing crisis, job insecurity, a rising cost of living and precarious employment conditions, the need for collective action and assertion has never been more urgent than now. In the face of the logic of depoliticisation, individualism and resignation, young people continue to be a force for questioning, for creativity and social progress.
AKEL, together with EDON, the country’s biggest and mass youth organisation, remains firmly at the forefront of collective struggles for the rights of the young generation. We are fighting for policies that ensure dignified work with rights, affordable housing, public and high-quality education, substantial support for young families, and opportunities for young people to participate creatively in social and political life.
Together with the young generation, we continue the struggle for a reunified, peaceful and socially just Cyprus, where every young person will be able to plan their life with optimism and dignity.
