AKEL reiterates its demand for the  reopening of the case of the black spy van

31 March 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The allegations made yesterday in a post by journalist and author Makarios Drousiotis are extremely serious.

The allegations concerning the rape of a minor, of an unholy fraternity among state and political officials and judges, and many other things, cannot be swept under the carpet by the silence of the government and, in particular, of the state institutions tasked with investigating them. An immediate and impartial investigation of the allegations, accountability, the assignment of responsibility, and punishment are demanded.

The allegations also refer to personal relations between the former President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and the owner of the black spy van, Tal Dillian, a former Israeli agent recently convicted in Greece on wiretapping charges. It is clear that the elephant in the room is the notorious black surveillance van, whose activities were exposed a few years ago following complaints made by AKEL.

We recall that for years, the former ruling government forces and the then-leadership of the Police Force tried to refute AKEL’s complaints, but in Parliament we documented political and financial dealings between the then-Anastasiades government and DISY with the companies of former Israeli agents.

We once again recall that AKEL denounced the institutional collusion/entanglement of those in government at the time regarding their handling of the case of the black spy van and condemned the ulterior motives behind the decision taken by the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General to suspend criminal proceedings against the former Israeli agent, citing reasons of “public interest.”

The evidence regarding the black spy van’s activities is now overwhelming and irrefutable. AKEL calls on the authorities to reopen the black spy van case, particularly following Dillian’s explicit admission in Greece that his clients were states and governments.
