“Ideological obsession” is when you risk Cyprus’ just cause to side with those who want to destroy international law

There is no more characteristic example of “ideological obsession” than the Christodoulides government’s decision to participate in the meeting of the “Board of Peace” convened by Trump.
It is obvious that for a long time now, the US has been trying to sideline the United Nations and reshape the international system created after World War II. It is no coincidence that a large number of countries around the world and EU member states rejected Trump’s invitation.
Its inconceivable that the government cannot comprehend that such a development poses enormous dangers for our country’s cause, which bases its statehood, its rights and its struggle on international law and the Resolutions of the UN, and that the government unreservedly supports Trump’s machinations.
The excuse that “the meeting is being held on the basis of a relevant Security Council resolution” is, to say the least, misleading. Resolution 2803 clearly restricts itself to the post-war management of Gaza, while Trump himself has repeatedly stated that the initiative is not limited to Gaza, but aspires to become a “bold new model” for resolving international conflicts on a global scale. A model in which the logic of weapons and business in international relations replaces international law. Furthermore, the mere fact that a war criminal like Netanyahu will participate in the “Peace Council” is indicative.
The participation of the Cypriot government in plans and formations that violate international law is a contradiction that will sooner or later come back to haunt us.
