By attaching itself to Trump’s war machine, the Christodoulides government is gambling with Cyprus’ just cause

The Christodoulides government’s decision to participate in the meeting of the spurious “Board of Peace” that has been set up by Trump represents a historic negative shift in the foreign policy pursued by the Republic of Cyprus, posing enormous dangers for our country. We call on all political forces of the country to take a stand against the decision taken by this government.

Trump’s “Board of Peace” is an integral part of the US’s inflammatory strategy to replace the United Nations, completely nullify international law, and to fully impose the logic of military might and business in international relations. It is no coincidence that a large number of countries around the world and EU member states rejected Trump’s invitation.

The Republic of Cyprus bases its statehoof, its rights, and its struggle on international law and the Resolutions of the UN. The Cyprus government’s participation in plans and formations that violate international law is a contradiction in itself that will sooner or later come back to haunt us. By attaching itself to Trump’s war machine, the Christodoulides government is gambling with Cyprus’ just cause.
