The credibility of the Republic of Cyprus is strengthened when the government defends international law in all cases

The President of the Republic was right to point out, from the podium of the UN General Assembly, the hypocrisy of Turkey and Tayyip Erdogan, who are among the last people on the planet who can present themselves as defenders of international law and peace. Turkey has been an occupying power in Cyprus for half a century and illegally occupies territories in Syria and Iraq. For decades, it has been brutally suppressing the Kurdish movement. It is a factor of aggression and destabilization in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a history of numerous violations of international law.
As everyone can see, the credibility of the Republic of Cyprus in the face of the propaganda of the occupying power is strengthened when our government consistently defends international law in all cases and when it does not apply double standards in its positions on international issues.
AKEL will never tire of repeating that the Republic of Cyprus’ consistency in defending international law strengthens our credibility and makes our arguments for a solution to the Cyprus problem on the agreed basis and framework more convincing, which will liberate and reunite our country and people.
