AKEL at the ‘Avante’ Festival in Portugal

AKEL is participating this year too in the annual Festival of ‘Avante’, organized by the newspaper of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), with a large delegation. The Festival takes place from 5 to 7th September in the city of Seixal. The AKEL delegation is headed by Elias Demetriou, member of the Central Committee of AKEL, Seviros Koulas, General Secretary of the Central Council of EDON (United Democratic Youth Organisation) and member of the Central Committee of AKEL, and Christina Christofia, member of the Central Committee of AKEL.
AKEL will have its own stand at the International City, where it will distribute informative material on the Cyprus problem. The same stand will also operate a Cypriot corner where traditional products from our country will be offered.
On 7 September, Seviros Koulas will be a speaker at a discussion to take place within the Festival entitled “80 years since the victory against Nazism and fascism. For Peace! No to Fascism and War!” Furthermore, the AKEL delegation will also hold a series of political meetings with fraternal parties and other organizations.
During their stay in Lisbon, AKEL and EDON Youth are organizing a special program of visits related mainly to the history of the “Red Carnation Revolution” of 1974, the historical event associated with the Festival itself. A total of 14 people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, are participating in the trip to Portugal.
