The government’s promises haven’t been fulfilled

28 August 2025, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The new information revealed today about the infrastructure in the Vasilikos power station leaves the government, and especially the Minister of Energy, irreparably exposed.

If the reports published are accurate, then the Christodoulides government is under serious scrutiny for its actions, omissions, and handling of the situation.

On Cyprus’ most critical energy project, which would pave the way for the import of natural gas for the generation of electricity, the government has once again failed to live up to its own expectations, with timetables having been missed one after the other.

We recall that the government has often referred to a “Plan B” that we have never actually seen, leaving Cyprus exposed to energy insecurity and consumers facing exorbitant electricity prices.

The mistakes and omissions of the previous Anastasiades-DISY government, which left Cyprus exposed on energy issues, are being continued by the current government ruling forces at enormous cost to the economy and society.
