DISY and ELAM repeated for yet another year their provocation against the people and the History of Cyprus

DISY and far-right ELAM repeated for yet another year their provocation against our people, laying laurel wreaths to the soldiers who were killed attacking the Presidential Palace during the coup.

Both parties know that laurel wreaths are laid for heroes and have nothing to do with the religious memorial service to which no one apparently objects. Nevertheless, DISY and ELAM insist on paying  honours as heroes to those who participated in the attack on the Presidential Palace during the coup d’etat. These actions are not just actions within the context of the competition between them to attract the remnants of the coup. These political actions confirm that the Right and the far right have never sincerely condemned the fascist crime committed on the 15 July 1974 and the EOKA B terror. Besides, they not only honour those who carried out the orders of treason, they honour even more solemnly the very masterminds of the treason and fascist terror of that time.

AKEL declares that no matter how many years pass, it will not compromise with this vile provocation and with the ideological operation to falsify the historical truth about 1974. No matter how many years may pass, the overwhelming majority of our people will insist on calling heroes heroes and traitors traitors.
