AKEL meeting with the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council (PVCC)

Today AKEL met with a delegation from the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council (PVCC), headed by its President Elias Demetriou and Secretary Giannoula Kyriakidou. The delegation of AKEL included the AKEL MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance Committee Andros Kafkalias and the Head of AKEL’s Social Policy Bureau Evanthia Savva.

During the meeting, the President of the PVCC outlined the Council’s activity in providing support for vulnerable groups of the population, as well as its activities on issues relating to human rights, the environment, health and education. The President of the PVCC also highlighted AKEL’s long-standing support towards PVCC at all levels.

The AKEL delegation stressed the importance of volunteering for society at large and the need to support NGO’s in their work. It also highlighted AKEL’s long-standing interest on issues relating to the development of a modern welfare state and the efforts AKEL is making, both inside and outside Parliament, towards this end.

It was also agreed that the meeting would represent an opportunity to strengthen the two-way communication between AKEL and the PVCC with the goal of establishing a qualitative and modern welfare state for Cyprus.
