We do not forget the Armenian Genocide
24 April 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
Today we remember the horrific crime of the Armenian Genocide, committed by the Young Turks in the period 1915-1923, which constitutes a black stain on the history of all humanity. We honour the victims of the Genocide and express our unreserved respect and sympathy to the fraternal people of Armenia, the Armenians of the diaspora and of course to the Armenian community of Cyprus.
We reaffirm our support towards the struggle of the Armenian nation for the universal recognition and remembrance of the genocide it suffered. All the states of the world, including Turkey itself, must recognize the historical truth and the Armenian Genocide. We express our solidarity with the fighters and activists inside Turkey who are struggling for the recognition of the genocide.
Defending the historical memory of the Armenian Genocide is the duty of the whole world towards the Armenian nation but, at the same time, it is a tool to prevent the repetition of such heinous crimes in the future of humanity.
