Meeting between the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL and the Pancyprian Trade Union for Equality

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, met today with a delegation of the Pancyprian Trade Union for Equality, where he was handed a framework outlining the trade union’s demands.

During the discussion, fundamental and long-standing problems contract workers employed in the public sector are facing were noted, including issues relating to permanent employment status, equal treatment and the pension question.

The General Secretary of AKEL reiterated the need to ensure labour rights for the contract workers who currently form a large section of the Public Service. AKEL has taken a number of initiatives towards this end seeking to promote the demands of contract workers.
