We demand effective recognition of the contribution of war invalids
Statement by AKEL MP Nikos Kettiros and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees, Enclaved, Missing and War-stricken Persons after the Committee’s meeting
1 March 2022
We discussed today in the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees once again the problems faced by the war-stricken victims and disabled persons of the 1974 war. It is tragic that we as a Committee are forced to call and trouble these people because no solutions have yet being provided by the Government.
I have contacted the Ministry of Finance and a meeting will be arranged between the Ministries involved and the war-stricken person’s organisation to discuss their demands. The Committee have received assurances that the issue will be resolved, but until the conclusion of this meeting we shall maintain our reservations.
We consider it a disgrace that things have been allowed to come to this, with war invalids being forced to announce mobilisations for their demands. These are people who suffered severe injuries, left their souls and limbs on the battlefields. It is incumbent on everyone to realise this and promote the solution of their problems
