AKEL on the passing away of the writer and scholar Lefkios Zafiriou

AKEL expresses its sadness at the passing away of the writer, educator, researcher and scholar Lefkios Zafiriou, who played a very important role in the development of the letters and the arts in Cyprus and abroad. His presence over many years in education, his pioneering activity as a founding member of the Writer’s Union and his continuous and uninterrupted research activity classify Lefkios Zafiriou as a major intellectual of Cyprus.

His active involvement in the struggles of our people for a solution and reunification was multifaceted and important, as was his contribution as a teacher at the Rizokarpaso School (Note: for the children of the enclaved people in the occupied areas).

AKEL expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives of Lefkios Zafiriou.
