Yes to Confidence Building Measures, but together with a substantive discussion on the Cyprus problem
Statements by AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtides
3 February 2022, ‘Astra’ radio station
The recipe of discussing just fragmentary Confidence Building Measures and indeed not in parallel with the substantive discussion on the Cyprus problem has been tried before, AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtides stressed. Speaking to the morning edition of ‘Astra’ radio, he noted that Confidence Building Measures help when they seek to assist the talks and not when they substitute for efforts for a resumption of the negotiations.
The AKEL MP pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side must be convincing with regards the resumption of talks and referred to the proposal AKEL submitted to the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem. He also said that Turkey, by putting forth unacceptable demands, is making the situation more difficult, but said that this must not lead the Greek Cypriot side to change course on the Cyprus problem.
