The leaderships of DISY and EDEK will find society against them

AKEL warns the leaderships of ruling DISY party and socialist EDEK that in their attempt for some time now to reverse the philosophy of the National Health Scheme (NHS), they will find not only AKEL, but also the overwhelming majority of society against them.

The possibility of prescribing medicines and diagnostic tests by doctors not registered in the NHS, as well as the possibility of bypassing personal doctors through the abolition of the EUR 25 supplement, will not constitute improvements in the health system, but will deliver a decisive blow to the NHS philosophy and structure.

More specifically, inter alia, such changes push doctors to leave the NHS and also worsen the accessibility of beneficiaries to NHS specialist doctors, exacerbating the problem of waiting lists that have begun to grow. The President of the Republic and the Minister of Health are called upon to take an immediate and clear position against the new methods of the opponents of the NHS’ philosophy. At the same time, they must also explain all the big talk and glaring contradictions of DISY-government officials, including the President himself, who just recently made a strong commitment to protect the NHS’ philosophy. Or does it, just like the abandonment of the public health sector too, perhaps reveal with these developments the true intentions of the Anastasiades-DISY government?
