AKEL expresses its warm congratulations to the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage for a European distinction

AKEL warmly congratulates the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage on its new distinction at the European Heritage Summit held in Venice.  The Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize and, in addition, the top European distinction of the Grand Prix in the category “Dedicated Services to Cultural Heritage”. The members of the Europa Nostra jury, chaired by Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou, unanimously selected the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage from among fourteen other nominations.

The experience of the long and continuous activity of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, is a living example of the power of culture in promoting reconciliation and mutual understanding between the people of our island, regardless of ethnicity, race or religion.  Particularly in the current conditions, where negative developments on the Cyprus problem are taking place one after the other, the European-wide distinction for the Committee’s work represents a hopeful development.

AKEL will continue to support the work that the bicommunal cooperation is doing for our country, always on the path of a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem on the agreed basis and framework, on the path of the liberation and reunification of our homeland.
