The government’s agony and stress to keep the Auditor General out of the investigation of the “golden passports” scandal is now clearly evident to all citizens. The government’s fear of transparency is also obvious. AKEL’s position is quite clear: Let the Auditor General complete the investigation which began before the government denied him access to the relevant files.
When the government talks about institutions being undermined, it’s enough to make a cat laugh.
Is the institution of the Auditor General being undermined or is it not, when the government decided to appoint his assistant to the Investigative Committee without even informing him?
In any case, the phrase of the former Attorney General “shame on you Mr. President” towards the President of the Republic, proves what the government means when it speaks of respect for institutions.
The government is attacking AKEL so that it won’t have to comment on the decision by the European Union to initiate legal proceedings against Cyprus for the “golden” passports scheme. We will wait for the government’s comments provided it wants to comment on the issue.
