Tatar’s election to the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot leadership a negative development

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th October 2020, Nicosia

The election of Tatar as the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community is a negative development, given his positions on the Cyprus problem. Nonetheless, in view of the fact that the UN Secretary General has repeatedly reiterated his intention to undertake an effort to revive the negotiations, the Greek Cypriot side must remain committed and consistent to the resumption of the negotiations from the point at which they had remained at Crans Montana.

AKEL will make an overall assessment of the situation as it has evolved after the result of the vote in the occupied territories.
