AKEL on today’s event at the Deryneia checkpoint

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 17th October 2020, Nicosia

Today’s scheduled event at the Deryneia checkpoint raises concerns about a possible diversion from the peaceful framework. If this were to happen serious damage will be caused to both the prospect of resuming negotiations and the prospect of a solution to the Cyprus problem.

The justified indignation of our people about the occupying power’s new fait accompli must have nothing to do whatsoever with behaviours and violent incidents which facilitate the fulfillment of the policy of Turkey and its henchmen in the occupied territories.

AKEL has for some days conveyed its concerns to the government and urged it to take all the necessary measures to avoid situations that will only cause harm to our country.
