Immediate action must be taken to solve this issue that affects thousands of families and SME’s

Statement by the Head of the Economic Studies Bureau of AKEL H. Polycarpou on the issue of rents

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 7th May 2020, Nicosia

There hasn’t been any reaction at all from the Anastasiades-DISY government and the relevant Minister of Finance to AKEL’s statement yesterday that they are telling lies about to how various EU countries have handled the issue of rents.

The government is not reacting because it wants to overcome a volatile issue without providing any solutions.

AKEL recalls that certain EU countries, such as Sweden, Lithuania and Slovenia, have elaborated schemes to subsidise rent. Other countries, such as Greece, have made similar adjustments to reduce rents.

We await the government’s reaction since the issue is crucial for the course of the Cyprus economy.

They must take immediate action to resolve an issue that affects thousands of families and small and medium-sized enterprises.
